One morning, in late May, the Animal Aid team, a shelter in Oakland Park, Florida, arrived at the shelter and found a cage hostel outside the door. Inside the cage, you’d expect to see a bird, but instead, they found a skinny, scared pit bull.
The dog probably belonged to someone, but she was (was very evident) very neglected. He had a severe demodectic scab and his skin was covered with painful wounds. It also looked like she had had several litters of puppies.
Shelter staff posted photos of the dog on Facebook and the post reached Regina Vlasek, founder of the Saving Sage Animal Rescue Foundation . Vlasek felt as if his heart was being pulled.
“It was all so pathetic and bleak,” said Vlasek. “She couldn’t even lift her head – she was so sad.”
Vlasek also couldn’t understand how anyone managed to put the dog in the cage. “It’s like a parrot cage,” she said.
